Draft Rules/Procedures

GSLL DRAFT PROCEDURES

  • All players (MINORS through JUNIORS) are required to participate in Evaluations/Try-outs
  • Sibling options must be requested in writing to the league prior to Draft Night.  However, 9 year olds can not play in MAJORS and 11/12 year olds can not play in MINORS
  • Each player will be assigned a number based on their league age.  Example = 12-1 for a twelve year old, 11-1 for an eleven year old and so forth
  • A player who does not attend the Evaluations/Try-outs will be given a BLIND PICK number for the draft.  Example = BP12-1, BP11-1 and so forth
  • Only players assigned an Evaluation/Try-out number or Blind Pick number will be eligible for the drafts.  Exception will be Managers/1st Coaches daughter/s ONLY, who will not be required to try-out
  • ONLY MANAGERS can attend the draft
  • MAJORS Division will draft 1st, followed by the MINORS Division
  • GSLL will have the following present for Draft Night:
    • 1 person manning and entering the players selected into the GSLL computer database
    • 1 person manually entering the players selected on a Managers Selection Roster
    • 1 person heading and running the Visual Draft Board
    • 1 person running and assisting the Draft
    • 1 player agent
  • At the start of the draft, ALL Managers will draw numbers to determine who will select the first players and subsequent order of the draft.  Example = 1-8 for eight teams
  • The draft will be conducted in a serpentine fashion.  Example = 1-8 in the 1st round, then 8-1 in the second round, then 1-8 in the 3rd round and so on through the entire draft to the last selection.  If ALL Managers have a coaches pick in the 1st round, then the draft picks start in the 2nd round as described above.  At some point in the draft (based on how many 11/12 year olds remain), GSLL will require managers to begin selecting all 11/12 year olds until there are no more remaining
  • All teams must select 12 players at minimum, 13 at maximum
  • All 12 year olds and 11 year olds will be selected in the MAJORS draft
  • Manager’s daughter/s will be selected as per their league age.  10 in the 5th round, 11 in the 4th round, and 12 in the 3rd round.  Note:  In case of a sibling option, those players will be in the rounds based on their age as described above
  • 1st Coaches daughter/s will be selected in the 1st round.  Note:  In case of a sibling option, those players will be in the 1st and 2nd rounds
  • Managers will inform GSLL who their 1st Coach is prior to the Evaluations/Try-outs
  • Managers selecting a player with a sibling option will be notified of that option prior to the players name being disclosed at draft.  The manager will then have the option to taking both players (as suggested by GSLL), or place both players back into the draft for selection by another manager
  • TRADING of players will not be done until the draft is concluded, and will ONLY be done with the permission of the Player Agent and GSLL.  Trading of players is a slippery slope and managers are discouraged to do this.  All trades should be completed by the end of Draft Night.

Subsequent years of Operation of TEAMS and DRAFT for GSLL

  • At the conclusion of the 2012 spring season, players/parents have the right to move up in divisions based on the players’ age.  However, the player must re-enter the draft for that division
  • Players who wish to remain on their team for the next season (excluding fall season) will do so automatically, as long as their age permits.  Those players will not be required to be evaluated again or try-out for the next season, unless they wish to move to a higher division
  • Players who wish to re-enter the draft for the next season, must submit a written notice of their intention to GSLL at the time of registration for the next season, upon approval by GSLL, the approved player must then attend the Evaluations/Try-outs
  • Managers have the option to release a player from the team.  However, the manager must submit a written notice to release a player from their team to GSLL at the end of their current season.  Upon approval by GSLL, those player/s will be notified by GSLL and will re-enter the draft in the following season
  • At the start of the new season, managers will be given their return players, based on their ages, and placed on the roster in order from 1 to however many returning players remain.  If a player is required to move up a division due to their age, they will not be returning to that managers team
  • The managers will be required to evaluate re-entered players and new players in their division
  • Re-entered players and new players will be required to attend Evaluations/Try-outs

** The above GSLL DRAFT PROCEDURES will then apply **
